Our Cause

More than a cookbook, this work recognises the often-unseen labour behind the meals we consume and the homes we inhabit. Migrant workers (MWs) and foreign domestic workers (FDWs) experience exploitation on a daily basis, with over 53% of Singaporeans believing that they threaten our society’s cultural fabric. Many people have developed these perceptions as a result of a lack of interaction with migrant workers, especially since they still remain somewhat isolated from our communities. At the Same Table is a cookbook that amplifies those who are often overlooked by showcasing their talents in the form of recipes and heartfelt stories; this cookbook hopes to create a cultural bridge that can foster a deeper understanding for the experiences of migrant workers. We truly hope that At the Same Table brings our Singapore communities, regardless of class or race, together to appreciate one another’s expertise.
